BT willing to share access to its optical network to competitors in UK
TT Bureau |  |  08 Feb 2010

British Telecom (BT) as committed earlier is willing to allow its competitors in UK to access its under ground tunnel network which support high-speed broadband services.

"We told Ofcom last year we''re willing to provide open access to our ducts ... and we are working with them on how to achieve it," said BT CEO Ian Livingston to Financial Times.

The move will help faster spread of high-speed broadband services in UK. "Open access to all ducts, not just ours, might help BT and others extend coverage and so we would like to see a future government support such a move," added Livingston.

BT has invested close to 1.5 billion pounds on setting up of such a network and aims to recover some of the investment by sharing the network with competitors.
