State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has come up with Digital Gram Sewaks initiative as part of which local entrepreneurs in the rural areas are providing Bharat fibre connections to the rural homes, using BSNL’s network.

Under the initiative, BSNL customers are given speeds up to 100 MBPS and options of daily data download ranging from 5GB to 50 GB per day are available.

The company in a press release on Tuesday said that the local partners will be given revenue share for maintaining the last mile connectivity to the customers.

“We are encouraging our local entrepreneurs in the rural areas to partner with BSNL and bridge this digital divide using BSNL’s best technologies delivering quality internet services even in remotest of corners of our country,” BSNL said in a statement.

BSNL is requesting all state governments to support this initiative of BSNL and make this program a grand success.

Vivek Banzal, Director CFA, BSNL said “State governments are also being encouraged to use this high speed platform for delivering the e-governance initiatives including e-health, digital land records, e-medicine and all the possible ways of boosting the rural economy”.

For this initiative, the telco is also partnering with education and entertainment content providers.
