Reliance Jio to add more towers, plans to launch 4G services by year end
TT Correspondent |  |  30 May 2016

Network up gradation is a continuous process. It seems that Reliance Jio is taking it more seriously. Even before its services are launched, it has started network up gradation. According to a report, the company is buying more towers to upgrade its network in cities. The company was awarded spectrum five years back but it has not yet launched its services. For last three years, the reports have been appearing that the services would be launched ‘soon’. Now, the reports again say that the services will be launched by this year-end.

Media reports say that the company is adding 35,000 more sites in major cities and is in talks with Indus Towers and American Tower Corp.

It is interesting to note that the company has been claiming for last three years that its network is ready in major cities. “How come the company has now realized that its network is not sufficient to handle calls and there are still gaps remaining,” wondered an industry observer.
