Tricom launches SingleRAN CDMA/LTE Network deployed by Huawei
TT Correspondent |  |  28 May 2013

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced the LTE network deployed by Huawei for traditional CDMA service provider Tricom has launched commercially in the Dominican Republic.

The launch represents a significant milestone for operator network evolution from CDMA to LTE using Huawei's SingleRAN CDMA/LTE solution.

At present, traditional circuit switched services are experiencing limited growth, and CDMA operators are faced with a challenge during the transition period to MBB (mobile broadband). In order to maintain their competitive edge within the Dominican Republic, Tricom choose Huawei's SingleRAN solution to migrate their existing CDMA network to LTE. The new network will be used to provide high-quality voice and ultra-wideband mobile communication services.

Huawei's SingleRAN CDMA/LTE solution is SDR (Software Defined Radio) based to protect original CDMA investments and to achieve rapid LTE network deployment and commercial availability. Huawei provided Tricom with a SingleRAN CDMA/LTE end-to-end solution with business consulting services to deploy CDMA 1x EV-DO and LTE in the 800MHz and 1900MHz bands.

Tricom's LTE network will cover the capital city of Santo Domingo and other major cities from the start, with further network deployment planned in 2013 to expand coverage. The deployment will bring high-speed mobile broadband services to the people of the Dominican Republic, and an internet connection ten times faster than they currently experience.

Santiago Peralta, Tricom CTO, said: "Tricom believes it is the right time to leverage LTE developments for our mobile broadband strategy and we're committed to building a quality solution for our users. We chose Huawei's SingleRAN solution, not only because of Huawei's global experience in network deployment, but also for the superior performance of its solutions that will help us to quickly achieve our goals and provide end users with faster and better mobile broadband experiences."

Kevin Wu, Huawei President for CDMA/LTE Wireless Networks, said: "With the coming of LTE, the development path for CDMA operators has become broader. Huawei delivers a convergent and evolved MBB network for global CDMA operators to meet end user demand for excellent data services."
