TT Correspondent |  |  28 Jul 2018

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio said that it added 28.7 million new subscribers in the June quarter, highest in any quarter since the launch of commercial services, taking the overall base to 215.3 million as on June 30, 2018.

The telco had added 26.5 million in the March quarter.

The 4G entrant said that its gross additions stood at 30.5 million, while it had a churn of only 1.8 million implying the lowest industry churn rate at 0.30% per month.

Jio added that the customer activity grew substantially in the quarter with average data consumption per user per month of 10.6 GB and average voice consumption of 744 minutes per user per month. It said that video consumption drove most of the usage, increasing to 340 crore hours per month on the network; average video consumption of 15.4 hours per subscriber per month.

The telco said that its s post-paid plan with attractive international calling tariffs and roaming plans saw good customer traction. It added that prepaid tariff plans continue to offer highest value to customers, and expects the revised JioPhone offer with exchange policy and lower upfront commitment to accelerate customer uptake

Last July, the group came out with the higher-end model of the Jio Phone – Jio Phone 2 - at Rs 2,999 and launched ‘Monsoon Hungama’ offer under which consumers can exchange any of their old feature phone for a new Jio Phone of the base model – which will come with popular apps such as Whatsapp and YouTube . It had also rolled out its home broadband service - Jio GigaFibre - which will take on the likes of Airtel, Tata Sky, Den Networks, and Hathway Cable & Datacom.
