Why to buy it?:
12.1 MP camera, NFC TAG, Bravia Engine with 1.5 GHz dual core processor and 1 GB RAM gives this phone a solid edge over others. Music Library and Sony’s Large Movie is its plus point.
Why to avoid it:
The design of the phone can be a reason to think twice before buying. It has a slow processing speed and the 3G experience is not very good.
Our Take:
Sony Xperia S is a powerful phone with superb functions. Though, Sony’s attempt with bold and smart body design has not impressed much (including our editors) in India.

Detailed Review
Design:
With solid built and beautiful design, the Sony Xperia is a supercharged power packed phone. It has 4.3 inch HD reality display powered by Bravia Engine. With 128 x 64 x 10.6 mm in size it weights 144 gm. The screen resolution is 1280X720 Pixels which fits best in this size. The Xperia S has tried for a high class look but has failed short to impress. The reason being its solid rectangular design, that does not fit in hand as people are used to a curvy design. The transparent icon bar in the bottom is attractive and catchy. It has Back, Home and Menu icon on it. It has 12 MP main camera with LED flash and 1.3 front camera. On top of it is a 3.5 mm headphone jack and on the left side is a Micro USB port covered with plastic flap. The right side has volume controls along with HDMI port.
Interface/OS:
Xperia S from Sony primarily runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbird but is easily upgradeable to Android 4.0 Ice cream Sandwich. 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual core processor with 1 GB RAM runs fast and smooth on this platform.
Features/Software:
Sony Xperia S is filled with plenty of features which are impressive and worth its price. For music lovers there is Xloud, 3D surround sound and clear bass as new options. Web browser, Web Kit, Bookmarks, Pan & zoom, Android Market, Google Voice Search, Google search, etc are pre installed in the phone. To get entertained you find options like, 3D Games, Play-Station Certified, Sony Entertainment Network, TV Launcher, Video streaming, Media Browser and Motion Gaming. Document readers, Alarm clock, Calendar, Calculator, Flight mode, Google Calendar, Phone book, E-manual, Infinite button and many more such features are in built and easy to use. Rest all that you require you can easily get from the Android market.
Camera:
Xperia S has a 12.1 megapixel main camera with LED flash and a front facing camera of 1.3 megapixels. The image quality and the HD video quality are simply superb. Inbuilt is 3D Sweep Panorama, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, image stabilization that helps taking good quality photograph. 12.1 MP is a big step taken by Sony as this generally is designed for Digital Cameras not Smartphone. This guarantees you sharp and clear images.
Memory:
It has inbuilt 32 GB memory Storage and 50 GB Cloud Space (Promotional for 2 years). But it does not have any Micro SD card slot. Sharing files and folders to your cloud space is easy and safe too. With data package activated on your phone you just have to create an account and you can easily access your cloud memory.
Audio/Video:
Sony is the pioneer for their sound quality and with Xperia S there is no exception. Superb sound quality and clear call voice. 3D surround sound, Xloud and clear Bass is a reason to cherish for music lovers. HD videos on 4.3 inch screen with 1080 pixels retina display give you excellent picture quality. Even video calls are clear and sound quality is fine to both parties.
Battery:
Li-Ion 1750 mAh standard battery has done justice to this powerful phone Xperia S. it delivers 450 hours of stand by time on 2G while 420 hours on 3G. Continuous music play will take 24 hours to die the battery. The Talk time battery life of Sony Xperia S is up to 7 hours on 2G and up to 8 hours on 3G.
Conclusion:
Multimedia lovers will like it for its excellent camera and screen, standard micro HDMI port, Great audio quality and huge storage. NFC technology inbuilt with1750 mAh strong battery life Xperia S lives up to the expectations. But its rectangular, sharp body does not fit into hands easily. On all other aspects, Xperia S gives tough fight to its rivals in every aspect. So we give this phone four and half star rating
