This phone has good features, camera and processor in this price range. It’s a good performer in other aspects too.

Why to Avoid:

The Bada OS is not satisfactory for smartphone users.

Our Take:

This is a good creation in Samsung Wave series and can be an option for this price range, but after comparing with Android OS.

Detailed Review

The Samsung Wave 3 is a strong fitted metal body phone with curvy edges and round depth. It’s fast, slim and solid. It has 4 inch screen size with 480 x 800 pixels screen display. And for safety of this big screen it comes with corning gorilla glass. It measures 125.9 mm, 64.2 mm and 9.9 mm dimensions in height, width and depth. The weight is also lighter to just 127 gm. On its front, below the screen is a physical home key along with back and menu touch keys whereas, above the screen it has a front camera and proximity and ambient light sensors. On the bottom of the phone it has a USB/charging connector, 3.5 mm earjack and a mouthpiece alongside it. The top is left bare whereas, the left side gives you volume controls and lanyard eyelet. The right side is for lock/power key, but there is no dedicated camera key on the phone. The back side of Wave 3 with brushed aluminum cover adds glamour to this phone. It holds a 5 megapixels camera, LED flash and speaker grill on the back The overall construction of the Wave 3 is great and it’s handy too.

Samsung Wave 3 runs on Bada 2.0 operating system. It has a powerful Dual Core 1.4 GHz Scorpion processor supported by 512 MB RAM. When tested, the browsing on this interface with power packed processor and 512 RAM was a great experience with fun. The speed was good and when on 3G multitasking and swapping applications was also smoother. Its TouchWiz user interface is easy to personalize and access. The only disadvantage of Bada OS is that, it lacks with applications and updates.

To ensure that you never miss your fun while experiencing Wave 3, Samsung has used standard Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery. And when tested, battery performed admirable results on 2G and above average on 3G. The stand by time delivered was up to 470 hours on 2G and up to 400 hours when on 3G whereas, the talk time was up to 13 hours on 2G and up to 8 hours on 3G. So, we can say that Samsung Wave 3 ensures you good battery results.

Samsung Wave 3 comes with tremendous 5 megapixels main camera with auto focus and LED flash. It has 2X digital zoom. The camera quality of Samsung Wave 3 is great. When tested, the outdoor images captured were rich and clearer in colours and the camera worked quickly and hardly took a second to be ready for next image. The Wave 3 camera supports JPEG, PNG, GIF, WBMP, BMP and AGIF image type. It allows multiple shot modes, such as single, smile shot, panorama, portrait, landscape, night, sports, party / indoor, beach / snow, sunset, dawn, fall colour, firework, text, candle light and against light.  The indoor shoots were even good. The Wave 3 camera has a 2592x1944 pixels image resolution. And, it also has a VGA front camera for video calling.

The Samsung Wave 3 is rich in aspect of memory space too. In built it gives you 4 GB of memory with a micro SD card space of up to 32 GB more with support of 512 MB RAM. Surely, this can be the key for many people who love to keep their favorite playlist of audio/video with them.

Despite its slim in look, the Samsung Wave 3 has not compromised with its voice/sound quality. The sound quality when tested was good with headphones and even when on speaker mode. The Touch Wiz music player is multi functional, the sound enhancing DNSe technology and 5.1 channel virtualization gives you better music output. Samsung Wave 3 supports MP3, OGG, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, AMR-NB, AMR-WB, WMA, WAV, MID, AC3, IMY, FLAC and XMF audio formats. Like other galaxy phone, Wave 3 also has a Stereo FM radio with RDS. The video quality of this phone is wonderful. It features 1080 pixels full HD recording and playback at 30 frames per second. The video call quality from 2 megapixels front facing camera is good but the sound quality drops down if you hold it at a hand’s distance. It supports MPEG4, H.264, H.263, WMV, DivX andVC-1 video formats. When tested, the video captured from the camera was really superior quality and gave 720p HD resolution.

The Samsung Wave 3 is pre loaded with powerful features in-built. It features Social Hub and Music Hub. The Social Hub includes all major social sites like, Facebook, twitter, You Tube, Linked In and many more. The Music Hub is available in only 32 countries in Europe and N.America which allows you to access the world of 13 million tracks of songs. Wave 3 is featured with Samsung Kies 2.0 and Kies air. And the much hyped ChatOn service enables single and multi-person conversations, multimedia file sharing and even more. And the much hyped ChatOn service comes inbuilt in this phone and enables single and multi-person conversations, multimedia file sharing and even more. For better and fast connectivity it features Bluetooth 3.0 + EDR, USB 2.0, Internet Dolfin Browser 3.0, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi direct, aGPS and a micro USB port to connect or pair it with your laptop or PC. For fun and entertainment, Wave 3 is embedded with 5 games, 5 wallpaper and FM radio with RDS.

The Samsung Wave 3 is certainly a promising smartphone in this price range and segment. It offers you long list of in-built features/applications that exist in all latest Android phones. The big 4 inch Super AMOLED plus screen is amazing and offers great display. The powerful processor and RAM gives you hassle free browsing experience. Overall, the Samsung Wave 3 is a good smartphone in almost all aspects, but its Bada operating system is not that satisfactory comparing to other Samsung android smartphones.

We give this phone four star rating.
