Union Communications Minister, A Raja said that mobile number portability (MNP) will now be introduced by August this year.

MNP like many other issues is on hold now due to the repeated delays in policy making decisions of the government. The original plan was to launch the MNP concept in metros by early part of the year followed by rest of the country by this year.
