Is it a good move that Trai makes all the Net Neutrality responses including million of email ids public for Spammers and phishers?
TT Correspondent |  |  27 Apr 2015

Trai with their petitions, proponents of net neutrality have submitted more than 1 million petitions to 'keep Internet free'. A month ago, Trai released a draft consultation paper on the issue of regulations for Over The Top (OTT) services and sought feedback from the various stakeholders including individuals. It received responses from the various service providers and associations along with over a million responses from individuals.

But, now put out all the responses, including email ids on its website which was received to support net neutrality. This is a privacy nightmare and Spammers and phishers now have access to a million valid email ids as well.

Millions of people support because Net neutrality principle says that access to Internet or any Internet-based service should be without any barrier or discrimination. In simple terms, Net Neutrality is the Internet's guiding principle that preserves our right to communicate freely online and users are free to connect to whatever website or service they want.

If there is no net neutrality, ISPs will have the power to shape internettraffic so that they can derive extra benefit from it. It is possible that ISPs will charge from web companies to enable faster access to their websites.

The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), on Friday announced “Sabka Internet, Sabka Vikas”, an initiative to connect the 1 Billion unconnected citizens of India.

Launching the online platform www.sabkainternet.in, COAI reiteratred that the Internet should be for all and not remain the preserve of a few. The Association invited all stakeholders to have a comprehensive and informed debate on the subject of Net Neutrality to develop a framework that caters to the infrastructure and diverse socio-economic needs of the country.

Now waiting for TRAI’s final comments on the matter but still to make so many email IDs public, it’s a open invitation for unethical companies and it's worth a lot of money, because most of these million plus email addresses are genuine and verified.
