Spillage of Pakistani mobile signals in India’s Jammu and Kashmir and the use of voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) by terrorists has become a big security threat to India.
In a letter to the ministry of Communications, the defence ministry has written that “There is a considerable spillage of Pakistan mobile signals across the LC into India in J&K (almost up to 20 kms). This is being utilized by terrorists to conduct their operations in the state by circumventing the existing security procedures.”
Defence ministry has asked the Communications ministry to take up the issue with the ministry of external affairs (MEA) so that the issue can be resolved ion accordance with the policy guidelines issued by the International telecom Union (ITU).
Defence ministry has also asked the Communications ministry to expedite implementation of location based services (LBS) so as to track location of a caller.
The government should continue auditing bulk SIMs being issued by the telecom service providers. Moreover, such details should be shared with all the law enforcing agencies in the Jammu and Kashmir including the Army.
