Facebook launches Lite app for its 2G Android users in India
TT Correspondent |  |  30 Jun 2015

Facebook has launched its Facebook Lite app for Android users, now available in India. App is now available for download via Google Play India. Facebook Lite is a lighter version that has been optimised for slower data connections. It does not support videos and advanced location services however.

The Facebook Lite app has been designed to run seamlessly on slow 2G network connections. Users can access Facebook's News Feed, their status updates, notifications and photos. Facebook Lite doesn't need users to install the Messenger app to chat with others.

It’s a free app with the download at 435KB in size, and it’s compatible with devices running Android 2.2 or later.

Facebook claims that it has 114 million active mobile users in India. The company will release the app in other markets over the coming weeks and months as well.
