PCMC areas to get 750km fibre network
TT Correspondent |  |  04 Sep 2018

The Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL) will create a 750km fibre network to generate revenue for the civic body and enable private telecom service providers to improve their services.

“We will create ducts to lay fibre cables. These ducts will be laid along the roads, considering the city’s needs for the next 25 years, which will prevent road digging in the future. Private companies will pay rent to use these ducts” Shravan Hardikar, municipal commissioner and PSCDCL CEO said.

He said the PCMC will not allow anyone to dig roads to lay cables till the capacity of the PCMC’s ducts is full.

Chinchwad BJP MLA, Laxman Jagtap pointed out that many private telecom service providers have already laid their cable network in the city and they may have laid more cables than permitted by the PCMC.

Hardikar said, “We have told the telecom companies to give us the maps of their networks. We will verify these with our departments and those laid illegally will be removed.”
