BSNL launches WiMAX services in Assam

BSNL launched WiMAX services in the North Eastern circle of Assam.The service was launched by Union Minister of state for communications and technology Sachin Pilot at Chaygaon in Kamrup district of Assam.

 

One of the plans offers the services for Rs 140 monthly rental.

 

“We are now laying special emphasis and focus on setting up mobile towers and other communications facilities in the insurgency hit northeastern states and also in border areas. The Union Government has sanctioned Rs 250 crore for laying down an 800km optical fiber cable line in Assam to provide high-speed connectivity in the telecom sector. In a bid to boots the Broadband service in North East, State operator BSNL will lay down the optical fibre cable network. The Centre will provide all help to boost connectivity in Assam and the Northeast and this is the first step in that direction,” Pilot said. To enhance the GSM Mobile network, BSNL will set up new 843 mobile towers in the Northeast to deliver high quality telephone and broadband services to its remotest parts,” said the Minister.
