Footwear major Liberty takes the WiMAX route to foray into telecom

Leading player in the Indian footwear sector, Liberty announced its foray in the telecom field in tie-up with Israel’s Runcom Technologies. The alliance will tap the upcoming demand for BWA (broadband wireless access) network gear and will particularly offer WiMAX solutions

The joint venture between the two firms is named Sunfest Runcom Technologies and the alliance claims that it is already in talks with recent winners of BWA spectrum in India.

"The JV has set up a plant in Bawal in Haryana to manufacture Base Stations, Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) both indoor and outdoor and USB Tongs for Broadband Wireless Access and Mobile and Fixed 4G networks (WiMAX-LTE)," said Adesh Gupta CEO and Founder of Liberty group said.

The plant has capacity to manufacture 2000 Base Stations per month and 10,000 CPE/USB tongs per month.

The initial investment in the JV is around Rs.30 crore.
