Tata Teleservices Limited, in partnership with Japanese telco NTT DOCOMO, is slated to launch its pan-India GSM service by the year end, with its first launch to be commenced within this month, said the company at a media briefing.
To be branded as, TATA DOCOMO, the services will start from the telecom circles in South India.
“We will progress from the south of India to central, east and north,” Mr. Deepak Gualti, President, GSM Business, Tata Teleservices, told Telecomtiger on the sidelines of the conference.
Tata DOCOMO, whose 74 percent stake is held by Tata Teleservices and the remaining 26 percent by NTT DOCOMO, has obtained spectrums in 18 out of 22 circles, with the other four circles being- Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, North East, and Delhi.
When inquired about the circles that will get the first launches, Mr. Deepak Gualti stated, “Which ever network gets ready faster, we will launch that. All the networks are very close to completion. Once we are confident of the network, another two days five days don’t matter .As long as we are sure that the network is right and has been tested, we will go ahead.”
Also at the event, Tata DOCOMO unveiled a strikingly different logo and said that it will invest $2 billion in the national roll out.
Referring to how the company plans to stand apart from its competitors, Mr. Gulati told TelecomTiger, “We will differentiate in terms of approach. It will be different but not irreverent it will be witty. VAS is not the space where we are trying to differentiate.” |
