India’s wireless subscriber base scales past the 600 mn mark in April

Indian mobile operators collectively added 16.9 million new mobile subscribers taking the country’s total subscriber base to 601.22 million. The total telecom subscriber base for India reached 638.05 million subscribers with a tele-density of 54.10.

India’s wireless tele-density was at 50.98 at the end of April, 2010 at a monthly growth rate of 2.89%.

Market leader Bharti Airtel added 3 million subscribers followed by Vodafone Essar at 2.89 million. Reliance Communications added 2.7 million subscribers while TTSL added 1.9 million subscribers.

Category ‘A’ and category ‘B’ circles each added more than 6 million subscribers.

The wireline subscriber base declined from 36.96 million to 36.83 million.

The broadband subscriber base increased from 8.75 million to 9 million at a rise of 2.8%.
