Huawei says it is compliant with India’s laws and regulations
TT Correspondent |  |  20 Apr 2012

Clearing the air filled with apprehensions in India, particularly in the media on security issues, Chinese telecom equipment maker Huawei on Thursday said that it is fully compliant with laws and regulations of the country are also actively involved in evolving a security paradigm uniquely suited to its needs.

Huawei said it remains committed to all governments to be open and comply with supervisory regulations and to operators to deliver secure network

“Huawei has continuously invested in India for local R&D, service, and manufacturing, among other areas," Huawei said in a statement.

Huawei said it is setting up a Global Network Operations Centre (GNOC), a new R&D campus in Bangalore with total investment of USD 150 million, which will double the capacity from the current 2500-plus local staff.

Media in the recent past has raised security concerns regarding the Banglore center suggesting that Huawei has links with People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the Chinese ministry of state security.

There are also voices advising caution for the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in its dealings with the Chinese firm.

"It is a matter of record that Huawei offered its entire value chain for scrutiny by any competent officer or agency chosen by the
Government of India on an anywhere anytime basis. Huawei has also invited personnel from media and government to visit their premises in China for this purpose," it said.

Huawei recently faced problems on security issues in the US and other parts of the world. The Australian government last month had excluded it from bidding a broadband network program. Similar voices were heard in New Zealand as well.
