Government against banning Blackberry services
TT Bureau |  |  14 Mar 2008

The government is not considering banning Research in Motion’s Blackberry services at this point. But government assures that it will look into the security aspects.

“We will discuss the issue in the Telecom Commission... country’s security is of paramount importance,” Telecom Minister A Raja told reporters today.

Talks are going on between government and other services providers like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Essar and Reliance Communications. It is quite possible that the matter will be solved soon.

“We are keen to resolve the issue at the earliest but there is no question of banning BlackBerry services,” says Telecom Secretary Siddartha Behura.

Why this issue being raised after such a long time ? I think more of a publicity gimmic ! Moreover it is purely technical issue which has either Y or N as ans. .... our technical brains in DOT should come to a fast conclusion on this

This came to the notice of competent authorities only when Tata sought approval from the government for running these services. Others didn't take any permission.
