Corporate | | Bharti airtel dragged to consumer forum for Rs 75 | | TT Correspondent | | 02 May 2011 | | | This was a small case of payment towards a broadband connection but the bungling on the part of the Bharti Aitel’ collecting agent resulted in UT District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum directing the company to pay Rs. 75 as refund and Rs. 2000 as compensation. Complainant Vivek Singla, a resident of Sector 21, Chandigarh, had alleged that he had a broadband connection issued by respondent. A cheque of Rs 1,500 was issued by the complainant to collecting agent of respondent namely Ramesh towards outstanding payment of the connection.
Subsequently, the complainant called up one Sunil of respondent's company and requested him not to realize the cheque as the complainant intended in making the full payment in cash. On being assured by Ramesh, the complainant made the payment of Rs 1,500 in cash on June 22.
But to the surprise of the complainant, respondent sent the cheque for clearance. The cheque was returned by bank because of insufficient funds and the complainant was charged Rs 75 as bouncing charges.
Respondent in its reply stated that the complainant has not impleaded Ramesh and Sunil as parties to the complaint and thus, the complaint is not maintainable. It is further asserted that once the cheque issued by the complainant bounced, they did not receive any payment against the cheque. |
