Policy & Regulation | | 2G scam: Cong distances itself from Joshi’s report | | TT Correspondent | | 03 May 2011 | | | Congress today steered clear of Murli Manohar Joshi's re-appointment as chairman of the public accounts committee but dismissed BJP's claim that the draft report submitted by him to the Speaker was the report of the PAC into 2G scam.
"BJP has a very bizarre sense of democracy. That sense of democracy is either my way or it is the highway... a draft report which was surreptitiously bounced on the PAC members, has been decisively rejected... has consequently lost its existence. But the BJP still continues to tom-tom that report," Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said.
He said the BJP's attitude towards the report raises a very fundamental question of whether the opposition party believes in the parliamentary system.
"If you do, then you must understand that if a report has been decisively rejected and repudiated by the majority of the members, that should be the last that one hears of it," Tewari said.
Asked about Joshi's re-appointment as PAC chairman, Tewari said, "I do not think it is appropriate for us to be commenting on a decision which Lok Sabha Speaker has taken." |
