BSNL to provide 20 lakh new GSM connections in Kerala

BSNL is targeting 20 lakh new GSM Mobile connections in Kerala in the current fiscal.

The company already has 10 lakh GSM mobile connections, Dr P. T. Mathew, Principal General Manager Telecom, BSNL Ernakulam, has said.

About 3 lakh GSM connections would be provided this fiscal in Ernakulam SSA. Of this, 40,000 would be 3G mobile connections. About 40,000 Broadband connections would be provided in Ernakulam SSA and 12,000 Wi-Max Broadband during 2011-12, he told reporters here.

About 16,000 Fiber to the Home GpoN connections would be provided during this year by laying Optical Fibre Cable up to the customer's premises.

There was good demand for land line even now, and about 30,000 land line connections shall be provided this year, he said.

The Mobile Number Portability introduced in Kerala has proved advantageous to BSNL, as it could garner 8,508 new subscribers at the Circle level, while in Ernakulam SSA, 1,350 subscribers opted to choose BSNL over their existing mobile operator.

Ernakulam SSA has 190 numbers of 3G towers and 657 numbers of 2G towers.

In addition to this, 34 numbers of 3G towers and 62 numbers of 2G towers are under construction, he said.
