TT Correspondent |  |  23 May 2011

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) will expand its broadband connectivity in Kerala’s Wayanad district by allotting 9,000 new connections this financial year.

P. Narayanan Moosad, the new BSNL area manager of Wayanad district, said in a press release here on Saturday that over 2,500 new landline connections would be provided.

Mr. Moosad said the number of mobile connections would increase with the BSNL planning to allot 50,000 new connections in the current fiscal.

“We hope to provide 500 WiMax connections too,” he said.

The BSNL announced the extension of its coverage to Mukkomkunnu, Thonichal, Valal, Yavanarkulam, Kumbaleri, Pilakkavu, Niravilpuzha, Korom and Pandipoyil in the district within a month.

A total of 3,000 broadband connections and 50,000 mobile connections were also allotted during the period.
