2G scam: Jayalalitha demands Maran’s resignation
TT Correspondent |  |  01 Jun 2011
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Union Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran for his alleged role in selectively distributing 2G spectrum licenses to telecom bidders in 2006.

Speaking to reporters on the issue, Jayalalithaa said: "With regards to Dayanidhi Maran, I am quite sure the Prime Minister knows what should be done and I am sure he will do it.

The Prime Minister should ask for Dayanidhi Maran''s resignation from the Cabinet. I am sure the Prime Minister will do it, if he has not already done it."

She added: "Dayanidhi Maran should resign from the Cabinet and face legal proceedings."

Opposition parties such as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) said the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam should either declare or deny investments that have been reported in the news magazine Tehelka.

Maran on Tuesday issued a legal notice to Tehelka magazine calling its report that he had deliberately delayed clearing application for licenses of certain telecom companies in 2006, a blatant and concocted lie.

Maran,a grand nephew of former Tamil Nadu chief minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam supremo M.Karunanidhi, accused Tehelka of pursuing a jaundiced form of investigative journalism.
