2G: Court warns CBI of fine if it delays supply of documents
TT Correspondent |  |  08 Jun 2011

The Special Judge (CBI) Mr O.P. Saini also warned the CBI that if it does not expedite the process of supplying the complete set of documents to the defence counsel after scrutiny, he will impose a cost of Rs 50,000 a day on the investigating agency for the period of delay.

The court asked the CBI to speed up the process to ensure that the trial in the case starts from July first week itself.

The accused were regularly complaining that CBI was not giving them the complete set of documents. The CBI, however, said it has deployed more people to get the documents ready.

Observing that the defence counsel were filing many applications in this regard, the court remarked that this way the trial may not be concluded even in four years and the accused may have to remain in jail “forever”.

The court wondered how the trial in the case will begin if the CBI causes delay.
