TT Correspondent |  |  23 Jun 2011

Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson has unveiled two new Android models in a bid to grab more of the burgeoning smartphone market.

Chief Marketing Officer Matthew Lang announced in Singapore that the company plans to launch the Xperia Ray and Xperia Active models during the third quarter.

Xperia Ray sports a 3.3-inch display with Mobile Bravia Engine, 1GHz processor, 8 megapixel camera with Exmor R sensor and Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Active is a rugged smartphone, dust and water proof. Xperia Active features a 1GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera and Android Gingerbread. Add-ons include, an arm band support to go with GPS and Barometer.

Lang told The Associated Press that the new models should help the company expand its 11 percent market share of the Android segment.

Lang said Sony Ericsson also plans to introduce a less expensive model that highlights texting service and is aimed at teenagers.
