Huawei raises security concerns

The Huawei’s plans to set up a scientific lab in Banglore raised security conceens in India. It is believed that a National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) report has clearly raised concerns over the development and  warned that Huawei’s expanding footprints were a danger to India’s national security threat. The Opposition party BJP has reacted strongly to the MoU and said that Govt needs to look into the intelligence reports.

 The MoU between the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore and Huawei which was signed on May 27, 2011 which says Huawei is engaged, inter alia in the business of manufacturing telecom equipments mainly in China and sales of telecom equipment.

The Chinese telco major Huawei was established  a Chinese soldier in May 2001 and has been under RAW and IB scanner after its workers overstayed in India. These agencies had warned in 2005 that Huawei was responsible for sweeping and debugging operations in Chinese Embassy.. It also pointed to Huawei’s clandestine operations in Iraq, Taliban-ruled Afghanistan and close ties to Pakistan Army.
