2G scam: HC reserves order on bail plea of Karim Morani
TT Correspondent |  |  14 Jul 2011

The Delhi High Court on Thursday reserved its order on the plea of Karim Morani, a Bollywood producer who is in Tihar jail in connection with the 2G scam, seeking interim bail for four weeks on health grounds.

“The order is reserved,” Justice Ajit Bharihoke said after hearing brief arguments on behalf of 53-year-old Morani and CBI which opposed his bail application.

During the hearing, the court took a serious note of Mr. Morani’s plea that his confinement may have adverse impact on his health as the doctors have advised him to “avoid stress”.

Senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for Mr. Morani, said his client has had a history of disease relating to coronary arteries and he be granted interim bail for four weeks to consult his doctors.

“Do you want to say that such persons, who are suffering from such ailments, can have a license to commit offence and remain out on bail?”

Justice Bharihoke asked
The court asked the counsel for Mr. Morani to clarify his stand on the plea saying “earlier, you withdrew your plea for grant of regular bail and now the application for interim bail cannot be used for remaining out.”

“Grant me the bail for four weeks and I wish to surrender after consulting my doctors,” Mr. Luthra responded.

Earlier, a three-member board, consisting of doctors of G.B. Pant Hospital here, submitted its report on the condition of Mr. Morani and acknowledged his medical history.

The report, however, said other medical tests were required to form a definite opinion on the line of treatment.

The CBI opposed the plea of Mr. Morani on the ground that he has had no serious health problems after his coronary.
