TT Correspondent |  |  17 Aug 2011

Korean consumer electronics major Samsung said on Tuesday that its research and development centre in India is focusing on bringing localised solutions for the market here to tap growing demand for smartphones and tablets with the roll out of 3G services.

“As we move towards enhancing our software workforce, competence, the India R&D is increasingly playing a strategic role. As the Indian market grows, the India R&D is developing localised solutions customised for the Indian market,” said Samsung South West Asia President and CEO, Mr J.S. Shin.

He said the R&D centre at Bangalore has the largest software workforce of Samsung outside Korea. It is currently creating applications customised for the urban Indian market, particularly for its smartphones and smartTV (Internet-enabled) range.

“The roll out of 3G services gives India R&D a good opportunity to provide differentiated solutions on smartphone and tablets,” Mr Shin said.

The company said the Bangalore R&D centre has come up with solutions for local mobile market like the Mobile Tracker, Religious Apps, J2ME App Store, T9 Hinglish prediction among others.

Besides, the Samsung India Software Centre at Noida has developed digital signage and edutainment solutions for large format displays and video walls, customised for Indian market.

“Our R&D centre worked on differentiated TV solutions for the hospitality industry. Even user experience design for Indian market can be differentiated to suit the local consumer needs,” he added.

The launch of Internet TV also provided opportunities to partner with various content and service providers to create user experiences suited to Indian consumers, he added.
