Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) which operates its telecom services under the MTS brand in India, Tuesday launched two Android-based smarphones — MTAG 3.1 and Livewire — both below the price range of Rs.5,000.

The phones incorporate Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S1 processors.

‘This initiative has been designed to take the power of Android to the masses. Launched in the sub-Rs.5000 category, these are the most affordable Android smartphones in India,’ said Vsevolod Rozanov, president and chief executive officer, MTS India.

MTAG 3.1 from Huawei comes with a 2.8-inch capacitive touch-screen packed with a 3.2 megapixel camera. It also has the MTS TV application allowing its users on the go access to live TV and on demand video playback.

MTS MTAG 3.1 is targeted at mobile entrepreneurs and business executives who need to stay connected while being on the move,’ said Max Yang, chief executive officer, Huawei India.

Livewire from ZTE runs on CDMA EV-DO network providing access to hi speed internet. The Smartphone provides easy access to Google Mail, YouTube, Google Talk and Google Maps.

‘We are committed to bring high end mobile Internet experience to the masses. It is this belief that has got us to partner with MTS India to launch MTS Livewire,’ said Cui Liangjun, chief executive officer, ZTE India.
