BSNL staff to protest against government’s anti-PSU policy on Tuesday

The BSNL staff will go on mass fast on Tuesday in protest against what they call anti-PSU policy of the government. The Joint Action Committee of BSNL officers'' associations and unions have alleged that the anti-PSU policies of the government has not only resulted in huge loss but also created situation wherein the employees are on the verge of losing their jobs.

 

It has been decided that both executive and non-executive staff of the state owned company will go on fast. This will be followed by the bigger protest in form of all-India strike on October 10. “Through this protest we want to save the company and our jobs”, said JAC Convenor  Mr V.A.N Namboodiri.

 

The employees are also agitated by the BSNL’s plans to reduce the strength of the employees in the face of the continuing losses. The company which has 2,76,306 employees is planning to cut its staff by 50%.

 

Other demands that the JAC are raising are- refund of broadband spectrum charges of Rs 8,313 crore, flexibility in selecting circles, refund of licence fee, full compensation for rural services, procurement of equipment, etc.
