Local administration disconnects illegal optical fibre cable in Banglore
TT Correspondent |  |  13 Oct 2011

Cracking down on unauthorised optical fibre cable (OFC) laid by private telecom firms, the BJP ruled city corporation today launched a drive to disconnect the cables.Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Mayor Sharadamma launched the drive to disconnect the illegally laid OFC in Shettihalli.

She said though the telecom firms have declared to the BBMP that they have laid only 5,000 kms of OFC in the city and paying the fee, the city has more than 15,000 kms of the cable.

Sharadamma said strict action would be taken against those who have furnished false information about their OFC network.

The BBMP earlier had directed all the companies to furnish in an affidavit the extent of OFC they have laid and some of them have approached the Karnataka High Court challenging the move to disconnect cables stating that it would affect services provided by them.

Recently the court dismissed their petition and asked BBMP to go ahead with snapping illegally laid OFCs.
