Telecom equipment maker Ericsson said the government''s move to give preferential treatment to India-made telecom gear may not be "ideal" to spurt the growth of the domestic manufacturing industry.
"We are of the opinion that preferential market access may not be an ideal policy to enhance growth of the domestic telecom manufacturing industry," Ericsson Vice President (IP and Broadband Development) Maya Strelar-said, Migotti.
"We hope that the government policy initiatives to increase domestic manufacturing will be in line with global commitments, strengthen telecom sector by increased FDI inflow and investments."
Ericsson plans to export multi-standard Radio Base Station (RBS) from its manufacturing facility in Jaipur, where the company manufactures 2G and 3G equipment, she said, adding, "The company aims to produce 6,000 RBS modules from here (Jaipur)".
On the competition given by low-cost Chinese vendors like Huawei Technologies, Migotti said the company believes in improving customer relationships, superior network performance and subscriber experience.
"Competition is inevitable for us and we pay respect to all competitors.
