After over seven months'' stay in Tihar prisons, five top corporate executives accused in the 2G case were tonight released after being granted bail by the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court had earlier in the day granted bail to Swan Telecom Director Vinod Goenka, Unitech Wireless (Tamil Nadu) Ltd Managing Director Sanjay Chandra, and three top officials of Reliance ADA Group -- Gautam Doshi, Surendra Pipara and Hari Nair, who were lodged in jail number 3 since April 20.
The corporate honchos left the jail premises at 8.13pm and were received by their relatives who whisked them away, jail official said.
The executives gave a slip to the waiting media persons as they chose to exit from a rear gate of the prison.
The apex court's order may come as a hope for other accused in the case including former Telecom Minister A Raja and DMK MP Kanimozhi who have been in prison for over six months.
During their stay in the Tihar prisons, the accused did not interact much with other prisoners and had to share cells with other inmates.
"They all had the usual prison food for lunch and dinner--dal, roti, sabzi and chawal," the official said. |
