RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday met Minister of State for Communications and IT Milind Deora and is understood to have discussed various issues, including the telecom sector.
Last year, RIL had forayed into the telecom arena by acquiring Infotel, which had emerged as the sole winner of pan-India Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) spectrum in the auction held by the government.
Consequently, Reliance Industries now holds pan-India broadband spectrum, though it has not started offering services yet. Earlier, Ambani had said Reliance Industries is in the process of conceptualising the products and services to be offered.
Broadband and broadband-enabled digital services are the next big leap forward in the digital transformation of our knowledge economy, he had added.
Last year, he had said that RIL would forge strategic ties with a host of leading global technology players, service providers, infrastructure providers, application developers, device manufacturers and others to leapfrog India into the 4G era. |
