The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Interpol are working on plans to tackle the telecom and cyber crimes. Both the sides have agreed to set up CBI-Interpol Research and Innovation Centre for Prevention of Telecommunication Crime. In India.
In a joint press conference on Friday the visiting Interpol chief Ronald K. Noble and CBI director A.P. Singh have said that both the agencies are seriously taking initiatives and developing mechanism to put an effective check on this problem. Both the sides are engaged in serious discussions on the issue.
AP sing said that the endeavour would involve Interpol, CBI, academic institutions and the private sector.
Noble said that there was an urgent need for such an initiative in the backdrop of this problem the world over. He said that most countries lack the means to analyse data and telecom devices which is largely responsible for the increasing cyber and telecom related crimes.
"The tie-up will certainly help in putting a check on this problem with best practices from around the world”, he said.
The CBI chief said that the partnership will result in CBI becoming a global hub for research and innovation to check this menace.
He said that the real problem is to get information and evidence with regard to IP addresses and subscribers details from different jurisdictions and the present mechanism available is unable to resolve this as most countries demand a formal Letter Rogatory under Mutual Legal Assistance Treaties.
Singh favoured a system that could link IT (Information Technology) intermediaries across the globe to a single interface for law enforcement agencies. |
