A former diplomat presently posted in Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) may depose before the special CBI court as prosecution witness in 2G spectrum allocation case.
He was posted in Mauritius as Indian High Commissioner. CBI will present him as witness in case regarding irregularities in the case, the sources said.
The 1975-batch IFS officer Madhusudan Ganpathi is believed to have been approached by Loop telecom officials for details on CBI’s Letters Rogatory in connection with its investigations into transactions by Mauritian companies. This was disclosed by Ganpathy in March this year.
It may be recalled that CBI in its third charge sheet filed on December 12 had named Essar Group promoters Anshuman and Ravi Ruia, its director (Strategy and Planning) Vikas Saraf, Loop Telecom promoters Kiran Khaitan and her husband I P Khaitan. It also named Loop Telecom Pvt Ltd, Loop Mobile India Ltd and Essar Tele Holding in the charge sheet.
The investigating agency is of the view that the alleged meeting between Ganpathy and the loop officials had the potential to influence the probe. Ganpathy is one of 100 witnesses named in CBI’s second supplementary charge sheet. |
