The telecom department (DoT) is believed to have informed the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that it would not be able to meet the four month deadline set by the Supreme Court to complete the process of 2G auctions. It said that it will instead take over 13 months, according to Economic Times.
The apex court in its ruling on Feb 2 had cancelled all the 122 licences allotted in 2008 during the tenure of former telecom minister A Raja directing TRAI to start process of the 2G spectrum auction.
The Economic Times report says that in a presentation made to the PM and other senior cabinet ministers such as Pranab Mukherjee, P Chidambaram and Salman Khurshid last week, a senior DoT official said the 3G auction process had been completed in 688 days and that it plans to undertake the 2G bandwidth sale in 400 days. |
