SC order on 2G: Cabinet to decide on Presidential reference after Solicitor General briefing
TT Correspondent |  |  12 Mar 2012

The cabinet meet on Presidential Reference on the Supreme Court order cancelling 122 2G licences remained inconclusive on Saturday.

It however decided to call Solicitor General Rohinton Nariman for consultations when it meets again early next week.

The apex supreme on February 2 had cancelled all the 122 spectrum licences allotted in 2008 during the tenure of the former telecom minister A Raja. While the government says that it had not challenged the SC verdict, it had filed a review petition seeking clarifications on certain aspects of the apex court order.

The prime minister in February had called a presidential reference on the matter which means the government will formally ask the President to ask if the SC verdict applies to all the natural resources.

What the government is really concerned about is that the SC order may impact other sectors calling in question the first-come-first-serve policy for allocation of natural resources.
