Uninor on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court seeking its directions for the government to complete the 2G spectrum auction process by June. The government on the other hand has already indicated that it needed at least 400 days to complete the process.
Responding to the TRAI’s recommendation paper Uninor had said that the auctions should be held on the same pattern and reserve price as 3G auctions held in 2010 from which the government earned more than 67,700 crore.
Addressing the media Uninor Managing Director and Head of Telenor Asia operations Sigve Brekke said that the company has moved the Supreme Court seeking early spectrum auction as any delay will hurt our interests.
“These auctions are and must remain about complying with the Supreme Court order that simply asked for the 2008 process to be remedied and fresh licences and spectrum be granted through auction in four months (June, 2012),” he said.
Uninor, a joint venture between Telenor of Norway and domestic realty player Unitech is all set to lose 22 spectrum licences following the Supreme Court’s February 2 verdict cancelling all the 122 2G licences allotted in 2008 during the tenure of the former telecom minister a Raja. |
