Apple to announce iOS 6, new Macs at WWDC
TT Correspondent |  |  11 Jun 2012

Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) which begins on Monday at San Francisco’s Moscone West is expected to be marked by the announcement of new software for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch iOS 6 and new Macs. The banners at the conference have suggested the release of new software.

However it is still not clear what new features will come with iOS 6, or when it will be released to consumers. Usually, the new software becomes available for download around the time a new iPhone model appears. Apple watchers expect the next version of the iPhone, the iPhone 5, to appear this fall, about a year after the launch of the 4S model, According to AP.

"What keeps people allegiant to and excited about their iPhones and iPads are all the new apps that are available," AFP has quoted Forrester analyst Charles Golvin as saying.

"Appealing to the developers and continuing to enrich the set of tools and capabilities they have to build great new apps or enhance existing apps is absolutely critical."

WWDC comes less than two weeks before Google's annual developers conference, which will be held in the same downtown San Francisco conference center.

"It is a back and forth between Apple and Google in a battle for hearts and minds of developers; to be their priority," Golvin said.

Apple last month had said that at this year’s five day conference, developers would learn about the future of iOS and OS X, allowing them to build incredible new apps. WWDC will also feature more than 100 technical sessions presented by Apple engineers as well as the popular Apple Design Awards, a showcase of the most outstanding apps from the past year.

“We have a great WWDC planned this year and can’t wait to share the latest news about iOS and OS X Mountain Lion with developers,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The iOS platform has created an entirely new industry with fantastic opportunities for developers across the country and around the world.”

Apple said that developers would be able to explore the latest innovations, features and capabilities of iOS and OS X Mountain Lion and learn how to greatly enhance the functionality, performance, quality and design of their apps. Developers can even bring their code to the labs and work with Apple engineers, applying development techniques and best practices to enhance their apps.

Apple designs Macs, the best personal computers in the world, along with OS X, iLife, iWork and professional software. It leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store.

The company has reinvented the mobile phone with its revolutionary iPhone and App Store, and is defining the future of mobile media and computing devices with iPad.
