Alcatel-Lucent has extended its partnership with Rostechnologii (SC Rostechnologii), Russia’s largest high technology corporation to accelerate the deployment of advanced Long Term Evolution (LTE) or 4G mobile services, new network systems and ground breaking transmission technologies to meet surging global demand for high speed broadband connections.
“This agreement marks a new milestone in our collaboration with Alcatel-Lucent, which creates enormous opportunities to shape the future of mobile broadband technologies in Russia. Together, Rostechnologii and Alcatel-Lucent aim to develop the necessary systems to social and economic demand for next generation communications across the Federation”, Chemezov said,
“Russia is one of the fastest growing broadband markets in the world, with ambitions to match that growth with new investments in new telecommunications infrastructure. Our joint venture with Rostechnologii is a further step in deepening our partnership and presence in this expanding market”, Phillipe Camus said.
As part of the extended agreement between Rostechnologii and Alcatel-Lucent, the two companies will create a new research and development center in Moscow, expected to employ several hundred highly skilled engineers drawn from both organizations. The joint venture will be set-up with Rostechnologii’s holding company, RusElectronics. The center will be managed by Alcatel-Lucent and will be fully integrated into Alcatel-Lucent’s global network of R&D centers.
“The joint center of RusElectronics and Alcatel-Lucent is Russia's first center of this kind and will support Russia’s strategy to export high tech technologies”, said General Director of JSC Roselektronika Andrei Zverev.
The new facility, due to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2012, will also carry out development projects for Alcatel-Lucent’s customers globally, applying itself to new mobile broadband solutions as well as speed the introduction of light Radio products, Alcatel-Lucent’s groundbreaking technology architecture that dramatically enhances mobile base-station efficiency and data capacity.
Light Radio is a radical redesign of the mobile network architecture that replaces traditional mobile base stations with small cubes and centralized processing centers, while lowering power consumption and allowing the transfer of vast amounts of data at ultra-fast speeds.
Alcatel-Lucent and Rostechnologii first set-up their joint venture, Alcatel-Lucent RT-in 2009 to produce and promote IP based high-tech telecommunications equipment in Russia. The two organizations will explore other possible areas of collaboration in the Russian Federation. |
