The CBI could name late Pramod Mahajan, telecom minister during NDA rule in a separate column of chargesheet for allegedly playing a role in the allocation of telecom spectrum resulting in a loss of Rs. 508 crore, Indian Express reports.

The report says that three major telecom companies Bharti Airtel, Hutchison Essar (now Vodafone) and Sterling Cellular will also be named in the chargesheet along with the retired government officials, former telecom secretary Shyamal Ghosh and former director of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited J R Gupta.

Indian Express has quoted a CBI official as saying “The government servants showed undue favour and caused undue cumulative advantage of approximately Rs 508.22 crore to three telecom companies since allocation of such additional spectrum till such decision was reversed by DoT in 2008.

Meanwhile, the CBI has said that it has not found any criminality during the implementation of telecom policy during the former telecom minister Arum Shourie’s tenure saying that it will not register any fresh case in 2G spectrum allocation case, PTI reports.

The agency said that it has closed its larger preliminary enquiry (PE) into the irregularities in implementation of the telecom policy between 2001 and 2007.
