Keeping in view the delayed implementation of regulations by the operators in the past, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on Wednesday directed them to stick to these regulations or face penalty.
In a meeting with the operators the regulator said that the operators will face penalty if they fail to do so, according to Hindu Business Line.
It was brought to TRAI’ notice that the operatrors have not so far complied with a regulation issued in 2011 on valued added services. The operators were directed by the regulator to take the consent of subscribers of the users before activating value added services.
However, instead of complying with the regulation, the operators offered to set up a new system with a claim that this would address consumer complaints.
TRAI was forced to issue a show cause notice to the operators. Even in the case of mobile number portability, operators have not fully complied with the regulations. TRAI Chairman Rahul Khullar met with promoters of telcos which was followed by a meeting between the Secretary of TRAI and CEOs. |
