Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), the global leader in broadband satellite solutions and services, has been awarded a contract by a major telecommunications operator in Latin America to supply an HX System backhaul solution, enabling expansion of its GSM and WiMAX wireless voice and data services in rural areas.
This contract builds on the initial HX System acquisition by the operator in 2009, which upgraded an earlier DVB-S network to the Hughes advanced DVB-S2 platform. Employing a highly efficient dynamic bandwidth allocation protocol, and with very low traffic latency and jitter, the HX System delivers both excellent voice quality and high data throughputs.
"Hughes is proud to receive this notable expansion order, a testament to having delivered as promised on the original contract and provided superior ongoing support," said Nick Marzella, vice president of CALA region at Hughes. "Our advanced HX System provides operators a highly versatile and cost-effective platform enabling backhaul of both wireless voice and 2.5G/3G data services in rural areas where terrestrial fibre or microwave backhaul solutions are prohibitively expensive."
Operational on five continents and supporting over one million broadband terminal sites, the HX System is the most advanced and widely deployed satellite networking infrastructure in the marketplace, and is fully compliant with the IP over Satellite (IPoS) global standard, the world's first to be approved by TIA, ETSI and ITU. The recently announced HX System 4.0 platform delivers high-speed IP services over satellite, supporting an expanding range of multimedia, video, data and voice applications. |
