Alcatel Lucent (ALU) has said that India is an important research and development centre and market amid the reports that it is planning to cut 1000 jobs in India s a part of its global restructuring strategy to reduce costs.
“Our commitment to building India's broadband infrastructure remains unchanged," It said in a statement.
Earlier in July the company said that it would reduce its workforce by 5,000 globally and exit or restructure non-profitable markets to save 1.25 billion euros by the end of 2013.
The company reported a net loss of 254 million euros for the second quarter and announced a series of measures to reduce its costs.
The firm which announced 'The Performance Programme' to achieve an additional 750 million euro cost reduction, said that it has made no announcements yet on where headcount reductions would occur around the world as part of the programme. |
