Videocon withdraws from bid for CDMA spectrum
TT Correspondent |  |  03 Nov 2012

Videocon which had obtained pan-India 2G spectrum in 2008, has pulled out from bidding for CDMA spectrum. The firm had applied for GSM and CDMA airwaves.

With this Tata Teleservices is the only operator left in the fray for CDMA auction to be held this month. The companies which are participating in GSM auction include Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Vodafone, Videocon and Telenor.

MTS which has challenged the cancellation of its licences in the Supreme Court has already made it clear that it is not going to participate in the auction.

According to reports Videocon had submitted Rs 220 crore as earnest money deposit, under the impression that other telcos would also show interest in the CDMA space. Reports also hint at the possibility of strengthening of Sistema’s case against the government following withdrawal by Videocon.
