Detailed Review

Design:

Sony Xperia P is very much similar to Sony’s flagship model Xperia S. It has an angular look and enhanced curved back that gives good grip in hand. It has 4 inch scratch resistant TFT touchscreen with shatter proof sheet on mineral glass and offers 16 million colours and 960 x 540 pixels screen resolution. With dimensions 122mm x 59.5mm x 10.5mm in height, width and depth Xperia P is a very classy and handy phone. The weight of the phone is just 120 gm and is ease to carry. The body is well fitted and strongly built.

The keys are well placed and good fitted in the body. On the top of the phone is a 3.5 mm earjack. The left side holds a USB/connectivity port, micro HDMI port and SIM slot. Its right side has volume controls, power key, camera key and a speaker grill towards its top. On its front, it has a VGA camera with a status LED next to it and sensors. Below the screens, on its transparent strip are three capacitive Android keys. On its aluminum back it holds a 8 megapixels camera with LED flash. The overall built and design of this device is great and it is strongly fitted too.

Interface/OS:

Sony Xperia P runs on Goggle Android 2.3 Gingerbread but is upgradeable to Android 4.0 ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system version. It has a 1 GHz cortex A9 processor with NovaThor U8500 chipset.  This android version is well supported and its 1 GB RAM is well supporting too. With Sony Mobile BRAVIA engine, it assures sharp and clear clips taken. It supports Timescape User Interface.

Camera:

Sony Xperia P comes with a great 8 megapixels main camera with auto focus and LED flash light. It also comes with a VGA front facing camera. Now, one who is looking for a device with this facility can think for Xperia P as well. The camera features Geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, 3D sweep panorama and image stabilization. The picture quality when tested was great with both outdoor and indoor shoots. The colours were rich and clear, thanks to the BRAVIA engine and its unique WhiteMagic technology, making the colours as sharp and clear as it were inside.

Battery:

Sony Xperia P comes with a marathon Li-Ion 1305 mAh standard LI-Ion battery. The battery performed excellent results while testing. The battery works fine with daily average use and with data usage as well. The stand by time delivered when tested was up to 460 hours on 2G and 415 hours on 3G. The music play time is up to 60 hours whereas, the Talk time it gave when on test was up to 6.5 hours on 2G and up to 5 hours on 3G.

Memory:

Xperia P’s benefit and drawback is its memory. It offers one with 16 GB inbuilt memory space from which 13 GB is user accessible memory. But, its biggest drawback is its no memory card space. And surprisingly, Sony in this device has come up with 1 GB RAM space, leaving its trend of 512 MB RAM trend for mid range smartphones.

Audio/Video:

The in-built music player is simply superb and it will give you good sound with pleasure to your ears and supports MP3, 3GPP, MP4, SMF, WAV, OTA and Ogg vorbis audio formats. The video quality is brilliant and rich with colours and sharpness. The WhiteMagic technology improves the video and image quality. It supports 3GPP and MP4 video formats. It gives HD 1080 pixels resolution at 30 frames per second with 8X digital zoom. It has continuous auto focus, video light and video stabilizer.

Features:

Sony Xperia P is filled with plenty of features which are impressive and worth its price. It has FM radio with RDS technology, Xperia 2.0 with Facebook and Timescape with Twitter is also integrated. For music lovers there is Xloud, 3D surround sound and clear bass as new options. It comes with pre load applications such as, Google Voice Search Google Talk with video chat Google Mail Google Calendar Google Gallery 3D Google Maps with Street View and Latitude. Web browser, Web Kit, Bookmarks, Pan & zoom, Android Market, Google Voice Search, Google search, etc are pre installed in the phone. Document readers, Alarm clock, Calendar, Calculator, Flight mode, Google Calendar, Phone book, E-manual, Infinite button and many more such features are in built and easy to use. Rest all that you require you can easily get from the Android market.

Conclusion:

The Xperia P from Sony is a great phone in Xperia series and will satisfy one with its features, technicalities and pre installed applications. This is a one of the good mid range smartphone of these days. The only major drawback with this device is its no space for memory card and average battery. Else, this is a power packed handsome phone for daily use.

We give this phone 4 star rating.
