Nationwide MNP likely to be in place by Feb
TT Correspondent |  |  13 Dec 2012

Nationwide Mobile Number Portability (MNP) as envisaged in the National Telecom Policy (NTP) 2012 is likely to be in place by February 2013, according to the telecom minister Kapil Sibal.

This will allow the mobile users to retain the same number they have even if they move to another state or circle.

Speaking at 'India Telecom 2012, Sibal said that a broad agenda to timely roll out Nationwide Mobile Number Portability has already been finalized by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

National Telecom Policy aims to make the country’s telecommunications sector more transparent, relax merger and acquisition norms to encourage consolidation and also give more teeth to sector regulator and de-link spectrum from licences.
