Apple can not use iPhone trademark in Brazil
TT Correspondent |  |  06 Feb 2013

Apple can not use its iPhone trademark in Brazil with the copyright regulator ruling that Brazilian electronics maker IGB, will retain exclusive rights to the trademark, according to media reports.

The company got rights to "iphone" under the Gradiente brand in 2008. It had applied for the traded mark in 2000 while Apple launched its smartphone with this name in 2007.

IGB Chairman Eugenio Emilio Staub told Bloomberg that the company is open to talks with Apple, but they have not been contacted as yet.

Meanwhile INPI Spokesman Marcelo Chimento has confirmed the ruling.
