Extra Spectrum: Court directs CBI to submit more documents
TT Correspondent |  |  11 Feb 2013

A Delhi court on Monday sought all the documents from the CBI about the additional spectrumabove 6.2 Mhz demanded by telcos like Airtel and Vodafone during NDA regime.

During the hearing related to the chargesheet filed against Bharti Airtel and Vodafone in December 2012, special CBI Judge O P Saini said that all these companies which sought extra spectrum must have done that through a broad resolution.

"These companies must have approached the government (for additional spectrum). Where is the resolution? Show me those documents," Special CBI Judge O P Saini said.

The court observed that spectrum is a costly resource and the companies must have passed a resolution before seeking additional spectrum from the Department of Telecom (DoT).

The CBI had filed on December 21 a 57-page charge sheet against  Shyamal Ghosh and three telecom firms, Bharti Cellular Ltd, Hutchison Max Pvt Ltd (now known as Vodafone India Ltd) and Sterling Cellular Ltd (now known as Vodafone Mobile Service Ltd) as accused in its chargesheet.
